सुल्तानपुर शहर पर कभी राजा समशेर सिंह का शासन था। उन्होंने हमेशा वही किया जो उनके प्रजाके हित में होता । लोग वहां बहुत खुश रहते थे। एक दिन, एक गिद्ध अपनी पीठ पर भूत के पेड़ के बीज के साथ आकाश में उड़ रहा था। सुल्तानपुर में पहुंचते ही सुल्तानपुर के बीच में गिद्ध के मुंह से बीज गिर गया।
बीज भूतिया था, इसलिए अगले दिन वह एक पौधे के रूप में विकसित हो गया। पौधे को देखकर इलाके के लोग हैरान रह गए क्योंकि वह काला था। बाद में, लोगों ने इसके बारे में ये सोचा की मैदान में घास या कोई अन्य पौधे उग रहे होंगे। दूसरे दिन वह पौधा बहुत बड़ा हो गया। लोग इस बात को लेकर ज्यादा असमंजस में थे कि यह पौधा एक दिन में इतना बड़ा कैसे हो गया।
तीसरे दिन वह पौधा पेड़ बन गया था। समय बीतने के साथ लोगों को भी तेजी से बढ़ने वाले पौधे की चिंता सताने लगी। उसने राजा को इसके बारे में बताया। जैसे ही राजा ने सुना कि एक काला पौधा तीन दिन में पेड़ बन गया है, वह सीधा उस स्थान पर चला गया और वह आश्चर्य से पेड़ को देखने लगा।
चौथे दिन जब राजा उस पेड़ के पास पहुंचा तो वह पहले से भी बड़ा था। यह इतनी जल्दी बड़ा हो गया कि किसी को यकीन ही नहीं हुआ। चूंकि रंग काला है, राजा जानता था कि इसमें जरूर कोई जादू टोना होगा। इस बात को ध्यान में रखते हुए राजा ने कहा कि जो कोई भी इस पेड़ को खत्म उसे एक हजार सोने के सिक्कों का इनाम मिलेगा। इतना ही नहीं, बल्कि राजा ने यह भी कहा कि जो कोई भी पेड़ को काटेगा, या समाप्त करेगा वह मरने के बाद सिंहासन पर मेरा स्थान ले सकेगा।
जब सभी ने इतनी बड़ी खबर सुनी तो वे सब सोचने लगे कि पेड़ को कैसे खत्म किया जाए। राजा के चतुर मंत्रियों ने भी युक्ति निकाली, पर कोई उस वृक्ष को नहीं काट सका। जब किसी ने पेड़ के आसपास के क्षेत्र में आग लगा दी, तो एक मंत्री ने पेड़ को खींचने के लिए हाथियों का इस्तेमाल किया, लेकिन उसे कुछ नहीं हुआ।
अब, लोग डर गए थे, और उन्होंने सोचा कि ऐसा नहीं हो सकता था। उन्होंने सोचा कि यह एक भूत का पेड़ है। तभी उस गाँव के एक बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को पता चला कि राजा ने क्या घोसणा की है । जैसे ही उसने इसके बारे में सुना, उसने अपने गुरु से यह पता लगाने के लिए बुलाया कि भूतिया पेड़ के बारे में क्या रहस्य है।
गुरु जी ने अपनी सारी ध्यान शक्ति को एक साथ रखा, उसकी ओर देखा और पूछा, “क्या तुम पेड़ को काटना चाहते हो?”
“हाँ, गुरु जी ,” बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति ने कहा। हर कोई उसी प्रयास में है।
गुरु जी ने कहा कि इसे समाप्त करने का एक ही उपाय है। ऐसा करने के लिए आपको उस पेड़ के चारों ओर नमक लगाना होगा।
इस तरकीब के बारे में जान कर वो व्यक्ति सीधे राजा के पास गया और उससे कहा कि वह इस पेड़ के चारों ओर नमक लगा दे। ऐसा करने से ही यह वृक्ष मरेगा। राजा ने अपनी सेना को भी ऐसा ही करने को कहा। सभी सैनिकों द्वारा पेड़ के चारों ओर ढेर सारा नमक डाला गया था।
नमक डालने के एक दिन बाद ही पेड़ का आकार कम हो गया। पांचवें दिन तक, पेड़ जितना छोटा था उससे कहीं छोटा था। इसके बाद वो वह से समाप्त हो गया । उस व्यक्ति की चाल काम कर गई और राजा इससे बहुत खुश हुआ। इनाम के तौर पर राजा ने उस व्यक्ति को एक हजार सोने की मोहरें दीं। उसके बाद, उसने राजा को एक राज पत्र दिया जिसमें लिखा था कि जब राजा मर जाएगा, तो वह सिंहासन पर स्थान ग्रहण करेगा। वह बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ।

The city of Sultanpur was once ruled by Raja Samsher Singh. He always did what was in the interest of his subjects. People used to live very happily there. One day, a vulture was flying in the sky with the seeds of the ghost tree on its back. As soon as he reached Sultanpur, the seed fell from the mouth of the vulture in the middle of Sultanpur.
The seed was ghostly, so the next day it grew into a plant. The people of the area were surprised to see the plant as it was black. Later, people thought of it as grass or some other plant growing in the field. The second day that plant became very big. People were more confused about how this plant became so big in a day.
On the third day that plant had become a tree. With the passage of time, people also started worrying about the fast growing plant. He told the king about it. As soon as the king heard that a black plant had become a tree in three days, he went straight to the place and looked at the tree with wonder.
When the king reached the tree on the fourth day, it was bigger than before. It grew so quickly that no one could believe it. Since the color is black, the king knew that there must be some witchcraft involved. Keeping this in mind, the king said that whoever kills this tree will get a reward of one thousand gold coins. Not only this, but the king also said that whoever would cut, or eliminate the tree would be able to take my place on the throne after death.
When everyone heard such a big news, they all started thinking how to destroy the tree. The clever ministers of the king also devised a plan, but no one could cut that tree. When someone set fire to the area around the tree, a minister used elephants to pull the tree, but nothing happened.
Now, people were scared, and they thought this couldn’t happen. They thought it was a ghost tree. Only then a wise man of that village came to know what the king had announced. As soon as he heard about it, he called his master to find out what was the secret about the ghostly tree.
Guru ji put all his attention together, looked at him and asked, “Do you want to cut the tree?”
“Yes, master,” said the wise man. Everyone is in the same effort.
Guru ji said that there is only one way to end it. To do this you have to apply salt around that tree.
Knowing about this trick, the person went straight to the king and asked him to apply salt around this tree. This tree will die only by doing this. The king asked his army to do the same. Lots of salt was poured around the tree by all the soldiers.
The size of the tree reduced only after a day of adding salt. By the fifth day, the tree was smaller than it had been. After that he ended with that. The man’s trick worked and the king was very happy with it. As a reward, the king gave one thousand gold pieces to that person. After that, he gave a royal letter to the king stating that when the king died, he would take the place on the throne. That wise man was very happy.
